Job summary

CVS Health, through Aetna Technology, seeks a Principal Cloud Architect to shape cloud strategy across workloads on AWS with GCP/Azure support as needed. The role emphasizes design authority, secure by default architectures, and cost-conscious cloud decisions.

Remote work from the continental USA is supported. The ideal candidate has 12+ years in technology, deep AWS proficiency, and experience with multi-cloud patterns, landing zones, and AI/ML infra.

Qualifications

• 12+ years in technology with deep cloud architecture experience.
• Expert AWS architecture with working knowledge of GCP/Azure.
• Strong security and zero-trust architecture understanding.
• Experience with FinOps and cost-aware design decisions.
• Healthcare/regulated industry experience is a plus.
• AI/ML platform infrastructure experience is desirable.
• Cloud certifications (e.g., AWS Solutions Architect Professional) preferred.

Responsibilities

• Own cloud reference architectures and landing zones (AWS primary; GCP/Azure by exception).
• Define multicloud workload placement criteria and governance.
• Maintain paved-road patterns and guardrails for rapid, safe delivery.
• Serve as escalation point for the hardest cloud design decisions with engineering teams.
• Embed zero-trust security patterns into reference architectures by default.
• Define resilience targets and blast-radius reduction for critical workloads.
• Provide compute/data patterns for AI/ML platform infrastructure.
• Governance contributions: architecture reviews, tech radar input, and standards enforcement.
