Job summary

CVS Health is seeking a Principal Cloud Architect to lead cloud architecture across Aetna Technology, primarily on AWS with multicloud support. The role defines reference architectures, paved roads, and patterns, guiding engineering teams and ensuring security and cost discipline.

You will shape cloud standards, govern design reviews, and drive outcomes through influence as an IC rather than via direct reports. This is a remote-capable, full-time position in the continental USA.

Qualifications

• 12+ years in technology with deep cloud architecture experience at scale.
• Expert-level AWS architecture with working proficiency in GCP and Azure sufficient for multicloud placement and design.
• Ownership of landing zones, reference architectures, and paved-road/golden-path patterns.
• Strong command of cloud security and zero-trust architecture—identity, segmentation, and blast-radius reduction.
• Working knowledge of FinOps and cost-aware architecture, tying design decisions to dollar impact.
• Track record of driving technical outcomes through influence and design authority as an IC.
• Experience in healthcare, health insurance, or similarly regulated industries.
• Hands-on background with AI/ML platform infrastructure—model serving, multi-model orchestration, compute/data patterns.
• Relevant cloud certifications (e.g., AWS Solutions Architect Professional).
• Experience with infrastructure-as-code and automated policy/guardrail enforcement.

Responsibilities

• Own the cloud reference architectures and paved-road patterns with AWS as primary and multicloud support by exception.
• Define multicloud workload placement criteria and governing rules.
• Design and maintain standardized patterns, modules, and guardrails to accelerate engineering delivery.
• Serve as escalation point for the hardest cloud design decisions across the portfolio.
