Job summary

Hastings Insurance Company is seeking an experienced Claim Litigation Specialist to join our Legal team and manage a caseload of complex coverage and high-exposure claims.

You will investigate, evaluate, and resolve matters across jurisdictions, negotiate settlements, and participate in mediations and court proceedings while guiding junior staff and collaborating with defense counsel and insureds.

Qualifications

• Bachelor’s degree or equivalent combination of education and experience.
• 5+ years of property/casualty claims experience; 10+ preferred.
• Knowledge of complex coverage issues and litigation processes.
• Strong negotiation, analytical, and communication skills.

Responsibilities

• Manage a caseload of complex coverage and high-exposure claims from investigation through resolution.
• Investigate exposures, analyze policy coverage, and develop settlement strategies.
• Collaborate with defense counsel, insureds, claimants and attorneys to support litigation management.
• Evaluate and negotiate settlements within authority levels.
• Establish and maintain appropriate claim reserves based on exposure and cost.
• Participate in mediations, arbitrations, hearings, and trials as needed.
• Identify subrogation opportunities and cost-effective use of outside vendors.
• Maintain thorough, compliant claim documentation and regulatory adherence.
• Identify potential fraud indicators and coordinate referrals to SIU.
• Mentor colleagues on complex coverage matters and litigation strategies.
