Job summary

Offchainlabs is hiring a remote Senior Backend Engineer to join our USA/UK/Anywhere team. You will work on core infrastructure powering Arbitrum, tackle distributed systems challenges, and collaborate across research, product, and blockchain engineering teams to advance the Ethereum scaling stack.

You will maintain Nitro Testnode tooling, perform code reviews, set backend standards, and contribute to security and API-first architecture.

Qualifications

• Bachelor's degree or U.S. equivalent in Computer Science, Cybersecurity, Computer Engineering, or a related field.
• 5+ years of professional experience designing, developing, and securing blockchain-based backend systems.
• 3+ years of backend development with Go or Rust.
• 3+ years of protocols spanning L1s to L2s.
• 3+ years collaborating with research teams on blockchain technologies.
• 3+ years building distributed systems with reliable storage engines.
• 3+ years security-focused coding in distributed systems.
• 1+ year WebAssembly experience.
• 1+ year cloud infra and containerization (AWS, Docker, Kubernetes).

Responsibilities

• Work on the core infrastructure powering Arbitrum, the leading Ethereum scaling solution (20%).
• Tackle complex distributed systems challenges, optimize performance, and contribute to security and scalability (10%).
• Collaborate with research, product, and blockchain engineering teams on cutting-edge blockchain tech (10%).
• Provide ongoing technical support and engineering guidance to clients and internal stakeholders by diagnosing and resolving core platform issues (10%).
• Maintain the Nitro Testnode product, enabling local Arbitrum node runs for developers (10%).
• Conduct peer code reviews to ensure code quality and architectural consistency (15%).
• Establish backend architectural standards, tech stacks, and best practices (5%).
• Design high-performance compiler pipelines and extensible SDK frameworks (10%).
• Collaborate with Security to resolve security issues in distributed systems (5%).
• Drive the technical roadmap with Product, overseeing multi-service integration, scalable databases, and API-first strategies (5%).
