Job summary

Cognizant is seeking a Senior Backend Engineer to shape backend services that support reporting, data access, scheduled processing, and export. You will collaborate with product, QA, and partner teams to deliver secure, reliable, and scalable solutions from a remote setting.

You will own architecture decisions, set engineering standards, review designs, and contribute hands-on to high-impact work. Strong Java/Spring and cloud experience are required.

Qualifications

• 12+ years building and operating production backend systems.
• Strong hands-on experience with Java and Spring or another modern backend language and framework.
• Ownership of architecture across multiple services, including REST API design, auth patterns, and security tradeoffs.
• Strong relational database expertise covering schema design, migrations, and performance.
• Experience with cloud platforms, preferably Google Cloud Platform, plus containerization and CI/CD pipelines.

Responsibilities

• Own the technical roadmap for backend services powering reporting, data access, scheduling, and export/delivery capabilities.
• Drive and document architectural decisions across interdependent services and data sources; balance immediate delivery with long-term health.
• Establish and enforce engineering standards for code quality, testing, API design, security, observability, and debt management.
• Translate ambiguous requirements into executable technical plans; review designs and code; contribute hands-on to high-risk work.
• Partner with product, QA, engineering teams, and vendors on scope, sequencing, dependencies, and architecture decisions; mentor engineers.
