Job summary

Beacon Biosignals is seeking a Software Engineer IV to join our Datastore team. You will lead the design of complex backend systems powering our data platform, including PostgreSQL schemas, Kafka pipelines, and GraphQL APIs used by scientists and partners.

This fully remote US role offers collaboration with cross-functional teams, a strong emphasis on data integrity, and opportunities to mentor engineers across hybrid and remote teams.

Qualifications

• 7+ years of backend development experience, including data platforms and backend infrastructure for data-centric applications.
• Strong SQL proficiency with PostgreSQL, including schema design, indexing, and query tuning.
• Hands-on data streaming experience with Kafka or equivalent messaging systems.
• Experience deploying and operating containerized services, with Kubernetes and IaC tools like Terraform/Helm.
• Experience mentoring engineers and improving team practices, tooling, and documentation.

Responsibilities

• Lead design and architecture for the Datastore across API, pipelines, and data models.
• Collaborate with product, scientific, and support teams to translate requirements into scalable data workflows and integrations.
• Debug and profile cross-system issues and improve test coverage, tooling, and documentation.
• Draft RFCs to guide complex feature discovery and team alignment on decisions.
• Plan your work and help the team balance speed, generalizability, and technical debt across multiple stakeholders.
• Mentor engineers and promote best practices in data infrastructure and collaboration.
