Job summary

Pearson is seeking a Senior Software Engineer to own and deliver end-to-end backend and full-stack initiatives. You will design, build, operate, and evolve scalable software in a cloud-native, AWS-based environment, partnering with product, architecture, and security teams across distributed locations.

Qualifications

• Bachelor’s degree or equivalent experience in CS, software engineering, IT, or related field.
• 7+ years of professional software engineering experience, with backend systems.
• Experience as technical lead or senior engineer for cross-functional initiatives.
• Deep knowledge of backend concepts: distributed systems, concurrency, scalability, resiliency, and performance.
• Strong programming experience in Java, Kotlin, Scala, C#, Go, Rust, or TS.
• Experience with AWS, cloud-native engineering, and serverless/containerized architectures.
• Experience with APIs, system integration, security, and data protection.

Responsibilities

• Lead architecture, design, implementation, testing, deployment, and production support of complex software systems.
• Build scalable, reliable backend services, distributed systems, and event-driven apps.
• Own major engineering initiatives from discovery to production rollout and support.
• Balance new features with modernization and technical debt reduction.
• Mentor engineers and promote coding standards, observability, and deployment readiness.
• Produce documentation, architecture diagrams, and runbooks.
