Job summary

Affirm, Inc. is seeking an experienced AI Platform engineer to design and operate scalable AI services, including gateways, runtimes, and evaluations. You will enable production workloads, manage identities and quotas, and ensure secure, measurable AI tooling adoption for a global engineering audience.

You will collaborate with security and product teams, own on-call reliability, and mentor peers while shaping engineering standards across a growing, remote-first team.

Qualifications

• Track record of ownership and growth within a large codebase.
• Equivalent practical experience or a bachelor’s degree in a related field.
• Practical experience building with LLMs, agents, or AI frameworks in production.
• Strong verbal and written communication skills for global collaboration.
• Ability to write high-quality, maintainable code understood by others.
• Experience defining a technical plan for delivering a major feature.
• Understanding AI usage and infrastructure to support AI workloads.
• Track record of developing highly available distributed systems using AWS, MySQL, and Kubernetes.
• 4+ years of backend design, development, and launch at scale using Python or Kotlin.

Responsibilities

• Plan, execute, and own technical decisions and projects within the AI Platform team, from design through launch and on-call.
• Design and build gateway, runtime, and evaluation services that take AI workloads from pilot to production.
• Securely scale across millions of users and their transactions.
• Build identity, quota, routing, caching, and failover controls for governable AI spending.
• Partner with security and infrastructure teams to set guardrails for tool access.
• Create and monitor metrics, and own the operational health of what you ship.
• Set and improve code review and design standards, and advocate for them beyond your team.
• Use AI tools and agentic workflows daily to enhance code, reviews, and operations.
• Educate, mentor, and grow engineers, promoting best practices in design, coding, and testing.
