Job summary

Affirm, Inc. is seeking an experienced AI Platform Engineer to own the design and delivery of gateway, runtime, and evaluation services at scale.

You will collaborate across security, infrastructure, and product engineering to enable secure, scalable AI workloads for millions of users. You will build and govern AI workflows, implement identity and quota controls, and drive reliability with metrics, on-call responsibilities, and strong coding standards.

Qualifications

• 4+ years of experience designing, developing and launching backend systems at scale.
• Experience building highly available distributed systems using AWS, MySQL and Kubernetes.
• Practical experience with LLMs, agents, or AI frameworks in production.

Responsibilities

• Plan, execute, and own technical decisions within the AI Platform team from design through launch and on-call.
• Design and build gateway, runtime, and evaluation services for AI workloads at scale.
• Define and enforce guardrails for identity, quota, routing, and failover for tool access.
• Collaborate with security, infra, and product engineering teams to set guardrails for agent workloads.
• Create and monitor metrics, and own the operational health including monitoring, alerts, and runbooks.
• Drive code review standards and advocate best practices beyond the team.
• Leverage AI tools to multiply engineering productivity and improve workflows.
• Mentor engineers and promote design, coding, and testing excellence.
