Job summary

Affirm, Inc. is seeking an experienced backend engineer for the AI Platform team. You will design, build, and own services that run AI workloads at scale, with a focus on reliability, security, and observability.

You will work with Python/Kotlin, AWS, MySQL, and Kubernetes to deliver production-grade systems, mentor teammates, and guide architectural decisions. This remote-friendly role emphasizes impactful, measurable results.

Qualifications

• 4+ years designing and launching backend systems at scale.
• Experience with Python or Kotlin in production.
• Proven ability to build highly available distributed systems.
• Practical AI/LLM tooling experience is a plus.

Responsibilities

• Plan, execute, and own technical decisions from design to launch and on-call.
• Design and build gateway, runtime, and evaluation services for AI workloads.
• Implement identity, quota, routing, caching, and failover controls.
• Collaborate with security, infra, and product teams on guardrails.
• Create and monitor metrics; own operational health and runbooks.
• Define code review standards and mentor others.
