Job summary

UnitedHealth Group is seeking a Senior Manager of Software Engineering to lead strategic software initiatives across healthcare, AI, and enterprise platforms. Based onsite in Minnesota, you will guide roadmaps, governance, and end-to-end delivery while partnering with product owners and leadership to drive measurable outcomes.

You will manage globally distributed teams, champion AI/ML adoption, and ensure secure, scalable, and high-quality software across the organization.

Qualifications

Bachelor's degree in Computer Science, Engineering, Information Systems, or related field, or 4+ years of equivalent software engineering experience.
10+ years of software engineering or technology delivery experience.
5+ years of experience leading software engineering teams and large-scale technical initiatives.
Experience managing globally distributed onshore and offshore engineering teams.
Experience leading the end-to-end delivery and operationalization of AI/ML or Generative AI capabilities within enterprise applications.
Experience with cloud platforms (e.g., Azure), enterprise data services, APIs, microservices, and modern programming technologies (e.g., Python, Java, or .NET).
Demonstrated experience utilizing AI-enabled productivity tools (e.g., Copilot, ChatGPT) to optimize engineering outputs.
Proven track record of partnering directly with business stakeholders, product management, and executive leadership.

Responsibilities

Lead planning, execution, and delivery of strategic software engineering initiatives across healthcare, Payment Integrity, AI, and enterprise platform domains.
Define product roadmaps, priorities, and execution plans with Product Owners, Architecture, and Engineering teams.
Mentor globally distributed onshore and offshore engineering teams to drive high-performance delivery.
Drive adoption of AI/ML, Generative AI, intelligent automation, and data-driven solutions to improve outcomes.
Integrate enterprise AI capabilities into team workflows and align hiring strategies with tech competencies.
Champion ethical use of technology with transparency, fairness, security, and Responsible AI governance.
Promote AI-enabled developer productivity tools to improve delivery speed and code quality.
Establish and monitor delivery metrics, OKRs, KPIs, and program health indicators for leadership visibility.
Drive DevOps, CI/CD automation, release management, SRE, and production operations.
