Job summary

Premera Blue Cross is seeking an AI Engineer IV to lead AI/ML initiatives from conception to production. You will guide solutioning, prototype new AI products, and deploy reliable AI infrastructure while mentoring junior engineers.

The role emphasizes strong software engineering, ethical AI practices, and collaboration with leadership on AI strategy and governance. This remote position supports flexible work from home arrangements.

Qualifications

• Bachelor's degree in Computer Science, Statistics, Mathematics, or related field, or 2+ years in IT/analytics.
• Minimum 5 years of industry experience in developing, deploying, and maintaining AI/ML systems (AI Master’s/PhD or certifications may substitute).
• At least 6 years of experience with deep learning models (TensorFlow, PyTorch, MLX, JAX, etc.).
• Knowledge of ethical AI practices with explainable AI, fairness, bias mitigation (≥3 years).
• Experience with Retrieval Augmented Generation, Tree of Thoughts, or Multimodal CoT in prompts (≥3 years).
• 4+ years productionizing AI models, scalable data pipelines, and monitoring systems.

Responsibilities

• Lead design and prototyping of AI applications from concept to production.
• Mentor junior AI engineers and guide best practices.
• Architect cloud and data pipelines for large AI systems.
• Develop low-latency APIs to deploy AI models and monitor performance.
• Collaborate with stakeholders on enterprise AI strategy and governance.
• Document procedures aligning with policies and roadmaps.
