Job summary

GitLab is seeking a Senior Backend Engineer to own the core AI-enabled backend features for GitLab Duo Chat. You’ll design flow components, integrate LLMs, and orchestrate multi-agent flows across Python services and the Rails monolith.

Qualifications

• Production Python backend experience with APIs, data models, and async workloads.
• Experience shipping AI-powered backend features with LLM integration and multi-agent orchestration.
• Strong REST/GraphQL API design with scalability and backward compatibility.

Responsibilities

• Design and build flow components and agentic flows in the Flow Registry using Python and LangGraph.
• Develop and maintain backend features for GitLab Duo Chat across services and monoliths.
• Integrate new AI models, tools, and multi-agent patterns to enhance Duo Chat.
• Design and review REST/GraphQL APIs and chat entry points with clear frontend contracts.
• Improve observability, latency, and test coverage for AI-powered workflows.
• Collaborate with Product, UX, frontend, and AI specialists to refine requirements.
• Document standards and participate in on-call rotations to improve resiliency.
