Job summary

United States Digital Space LLC is seeking a Senior Backend Engineer for Duo Chat, focusing on chat engine backend, LangGraph integration, and agentic flows. You will own backend features from design to deployment across Python services and Rails monolith, partnering with AI specialists to deliver secure and scalable AI-powered chat capabilities.

Qualifications

• Proven experience building production Python backends, APIs, data models, and asynchronous workloads.
• Experience designing and shipping AI-powered backend features, including LLM integration and multi-agent orchestration.
• Strong ability to design and extend REST/GraphQL APIs with scalability and backward compatibility.
• Solid SQL skills and PostgreSQL familiarity for efficient data querying and modeling.
• Comfort diagnosing performance and reliability issues at scale.
• Collaborative, async-friendly work style across distributed teams.

Responsibilities

• Design and build flow components and agentic flows in the Flow Registry using Python and LangGraph within the Duo Workflow Service.
• Develop, ship, and maintain backend features for Duo Chat across Python and Rails monolith in a secure, well-tested way.
• Integrate new generative AI models, providers, tools, and multi-agent orchestration patterns into Duo Chat to expand capabilities and improve answer quality.
• Design, implement, and review GraphQL and REST APIs and related monolith logic, including chat entry points, permissions, and flow registration.
• Improve debugging, observability, and test coverage using pytest and RSpec; monitor latency and error rates to keep AI-powered chat reliable.
• Collaborate with Product, UX, frontend, and AI specialists to refine requirements and deliver high-quality improvements.
• Document standards and learnings with engineers to strengthen safe AI integration.
• Participate in Tier 2 on-call rotations to troubleshoot production issues and improve resiliency.
