Job summary

Expel is seeking a Security Solutions Engineer (SSE) to be the technical backstop for our Customer Success organization. You will troubleshoot complex challenges, collaborate across Security and Engineering, and translate knowledge into actionable guidance and documentation.

You will own technical responses, work with multiple teams, and help Expel improve detection strategies and platform understanding for our customers.

Qualifications

• 5+ years in cybersecurity—troubleshooting, security operations, or customer-facing roles.
• Strong troubleshooting and root cause analysis, capable of independent investigation.
• Technical depth in EDR, NDR, SIEM, cloud security, or related areas.
• Understanding of detection strategies and security operations workflows.
• Familiarity with MITRE ATT&CK and attack lifecycle.
• Knowledge of security controls across Windows, Unix/Linux, AWS, Google Workspace, M365 and networks.
• Experience with Zendesk or ServiceNow ticketing and case management.
• Strong written and verbal communication skills for technical and business audiences.
• Consultative approach: active listening, questioning, and issue understanding before solving.
• Ability to prioritize competing requests with sound judgment.
• Collaborative mindset and eagerness to share knowledge and learn.
• Awareness that security priorities vary across industries; degree or certs a plus but not required.

Responsibilities

• Serve as a trusted technical escalation point for the Customer Success org, delivering timely, accurate responses.
• Troubleshoot complex issues, perform root cause analysis, and propose practical solutions.
• Partner with CSMs, TAMs, and TSEs to address challenges, joining customer conversations as needed.
• Collaborate with Security and Engineering teams to understand Expel's platform, integrations, data flows, detection and response capabilities.
• Identify gaps in documentation and create, maintain, and improve internal and external resources.
• Help CS teams answer questions independently, reducing repetitive inquiries and improving response times.
• Maintain records of inquiries, types, and trends to guide improvements.
• Contribute to operational processes for tracking, escalation, resolution, and documentation.
• Share expertise with teammates and foster a culture of learning and technical excellence.
