Job summary

The American Heart Association is seeking a Science and Medicine Advisor (SMA) to direct and guide science volunteers in developing statements, guidelines, and educational programs across the organization. This role supports public-facing content, policy stances, and project reviews, leveraging deep cardiovascular knowledge.

The SMA will synthesize current science for diverse audiences, interact with domestic and international volunteers, and contribute to press materials and digital resources.

Qualifications

• RN/MD/NP/PA with a Graduate degree and clinical background in cardiovascular care.
• Minimum of three years of professional adult cardiology clinical experience; eight years preferred.
• Superior writing and communication skills with publication history.
• Ability to manage high-level volunteers (domestic and international) and travel ~25%.

Responsibilities

• Guide and partner with science volunteers in creating statements, advisories, guidelines, and programs.
• Provide consultation on science aspects to internal staff for public-facing materials and websites.
• Review content for Association websites and products with a science focus.
• Synthesize and explain the current state of science to lay professionals and internal staff.
