Job summary

The American Heart Association is seeking a Science and Medicine Advisor (SMA) to guide science volunteers and staff in producing scientific statements, guidelines, and educational programs. The role informs advocacy, policy stances, and public-facing materials with clinical and research expertise.

The SMA will translate complex cardiovascular science for diverse audiences and collaborate across internal teams, volunteers, and external partners.

Qualifications

• RN/MD/NP/PA with graduate degree and cardiovascular clinical experience.
• Doctoral degree (PhD, DNP, etc.) preferred.
• Minimum of three years of professional adult cardiology clinical experience; eight years preferred.
• Superior writing and communication skills with publication history.
• Strong interpersonal skills and teamwork with volunteers and staff.
• Ability to manage multiple complex projects and travel overnight ~25%.

Responsibilities

• Guide and partner with science volunteers in creating statements, advisories, guidelines, conference programming, and mentoring.
• Provide consultation and approval on science aspects to internal staff for programs, publications, websites, and media.
• Review content for Association professional websites and products.
• Explain current state of science and medicine to lay professionals and internal staff, and discuss implications for the Association.
