Job summary

The American Heart Association is seeking a Science and Medicine Advisor (SMA) to guide volunteers and staff in producing scientific statements, guidelines, and educational programs. The SMA will synthesize current science for internal and external audiences and support multimedia and press activities.

Based in Dallas, TX or Home-Based is acceptable, with travel ~25% and collaboration across US and international experts.

Qualifications

• Graduate degree with clinical cardiovascular experience.
• Three+ years of professional adult cardiology clinical experience; eight years preferred.
• Superior writing and communication skills with a publication history in peer-reviewed journals.
• Strong interpersonal skills and ability to work effectively with volunteers and staff.
• Ability to manage multiple, complex projects in varying stages under time constraints.
• Ability to understand, integrate, and summarize scientific literature.
• Ability to manage high-level volunteers (domestic and international).

Responsibilities

• Guide science volunteers in creating scientific statements, advisories, guidelines, and programs.
• Provide consultation and approval on science aspects to internal staff for publications and public-facing materials.
• Review content for Association websites and products.
• Synthesize and explain current state of science to lay professionals and internal staff.
