Job summary

Actalent is seeking a Hardware Designer and Drafter in Louisville, KY to create precise 2D drawings, 3D models, and labels for in-house hardware with a focus on robotic and automation systems. You will collaborate with engineering teams and use SolidWorks and AutoCAD to deliver manufacturable documentation.

The role requires hands-on experience with PCB layouts, cable assemblies, GD&T, and BOM management within a PLM/PDM environment, ensuring accuracy across product lines.

Qualifications

• Associates or Bachelor’s in Mechanical Engineering Technology, Drafting, or related field, or equivalent
• Experience in robotics, automation, or manufacturing environments
• Hands-on GD&T application to production drawings
• Experience with ticketing/work order systems
• Familiarity with MS Office and standard office tools
• Familiarity with Amazon Robotics systems or processes (a plus)
• Experience with SolidWorks and mechanical design in production environments
• Strong drafting and mechanical design skills for manufacturable documentation

Responsibilities

• Create detailed 2D drawings, 3D models, and labels for in-house hardware products, including robotic and automation systems.
• Produce drawings and models for mechanical components such as machine components, castings, sheet metal parts, and plastic parts.
• Draft PCB mechanical assembly layouts showing placement of components including connectors, buttons, and displays.
• Design comprehensive cable assembly documentation including routing, connector specs, and clear assembly instructions.
• Deliver high-quality design artifacts such as component drawings, assembly drawings, and complete BOMs.
• Apply drafting standards, including GD&T, consistently to all drawings and documentation.
• Author and process ECOs and other change orders to support product updates and revisions.
• Maintain and update BOMs across product lines for accuracy.
• Manage design data within PDM and PLM systems to ensure version control and documentation integrity.
• Use SolidWorks to perform 3D modeling and assembly design to meet manufacturability requirements.
• Use AutoCAD to produce accurate 2D drafting outputs aligned with engineering needs.
• Leverage MS Office and other standard tools to prepare documentation and reports.
• Follow ECO and BOM processes and change-management workflows.
• Read and interpret engineering drawings and specifications for documentation.
• Incorporate manufacturing processes knowledge (castings, sheet metal, plastics, electromechanical) into design work.
• Manage multiple concurrent design assignments via internal systems and prioritize tasks.
• Collaborate with stakeholders to clarify requirements and refine designs.
• Work independently while contributing to team projects and reviews.
• Ensure all deliverables meet quality standards and engineering best practices.
