Job summary

Merck & Co., Inc. is seeking a Regional Medical Scientific Director (PhD/MD/DO, etc.) to serve as a therapeutic and disease expert.

The role involves scientific exchange with national and regional Scientific Leaders, data-driven discussions, and collaboration across GCSA, GCTO, and investigator-sponsored research. The position covers the US territories MD, WV, VA, NC and DC, requires up to 50% travel, and supports clinical studies, scientific congress engagement, and medical education aligned

Qualifications

• PhD, PharmD, DNP, DO, or MD
• Minimum of 3 years of relevant therapeutic area experience beyond the terminal degree
• Ability to conduct doctoral-level discussions with key external stakeholders
• Dedication to scientific excellence with focus on scientific education and dialogue
• Excellent stakeholder management, communication, and networking skills
• Knowledge of FDA, OIG, HIPAA, and other regulatory guidelines
• Ability to organize, prioritize, and work in a changing environment
• Strong proficiency with Microsoft Office Suite
• Familiarity with virtual meeting platforms
• Commitment to inclusive culture

Responsibilities

• Develops professional relationships with national and regional SLs for access to medical information
• Conducts peer-to-peer scientific discussions and maintains medical contact within the company
• Directs inquiries on issues outside scope to appropriate resources
• Maintain current knowledge of scientific environment in AOI
• Initiates discussions with SLs about research alignment
• Enhances understanding of investigator-sponsored research goals
• Identifies barriers to patient enrollment in studies
• Recommends study sites and investigators for phase II-IV programs
• Protocol leadership with GCTO
• Address questions from investigators about participation in studies
• Engage in scientific congresses and exchange data
• Gather feedback to understand medical needs of SLs and patients
• Demonstrate inclusive leadership and role-model behavior
• Travel up to 50% within territory
