Merck US is seeking a Regional Medical Scientific Director to advance scientific exchange and clinical research across rheumatology and dermatology immunology. The role liaises with national SLs, drives investigator-sponsored studies, and supports company-sponsored trials with rigorous scientific leadership.

The position requires a PhD/MD-level credential and at least 3 years of relevant experience, with strong regulatory knowledge and stakeholder management.

Qualifications

• PhD, PharmD, DNP, DO, or MD required.
• Minimum 3 years of relevant therapeutic area experience beyond the terminal degree.
• Ability to conduct doctoral-level discussions with key external stakeholders.
• Dedication to scientific excellence with a strong focus on scientific education and dialogue.
• Excellent stakeholder management, communication, and networking skills.
• A thorough comprehension of FDA, OIG, HIPAA, and other ethical guidelines, laws, and regulations relevant to the pharmaceutical industry and its customers.
• Ability to organize, prioritize, and work effectively in a constantly changing environment.
• Strong working knowledge of Microsoft Office Suite (Word, PowerPoint, Excel, Teams, OneNote).
• Familiarity with virtual meeting platforms
• Working to transform the environment, culture, and business landscape
• Adherence to SOPs, GCP guidelines, and GMSA policies.

Responsabilités

• Develops professional relationships and engages with national and regional SLs to ensure access to company-approved medical and scientific information on areas of therapeutic interest and Company products.
• Conducts peer-to-peer scientific discussions and maintains a reliable presence with those SLs to ensure they have a medical contact within the company.
• Addresses scientific questions and directs SL inquiries on issues outside of Regional Medical Scientific Director scope to appropriate company resources.
• Maintains current knowledge of dynamic scientific environment in the Company’s AOI for the specific therapeutic area.
• Initiates discussions with SLs and/or potential investigators including data exchange to determine alignment with research strategies.
• Enhances the comprehension of the scientific foundations and goals of investigator-sponsored research.
• Identifies barriers to patient enrollment and retention to achieve study milestones.
• Recommends study sites and investigators for phase II‑IV programs; conducts Site Initiation Visits (SIVs).
• Protocol lead responsibilities in collaboration with GCTO.
• Addresses questions from investigators about participation in company-sponsored studies.
• Engages in scientific congresses and meetings for data exchange.
• Gathers feedback to help understand medical needs and priorities of SLs and patients.
• Leads by example to create, lead, and retain a diverse workforce.
