Job summary

Booz Allen Hamilton seeks a Maritime Autonomy Engineer to design and implement autonomous behaviors for USVs and UUVs. You will work in a multidisciplinary team to translate operational requirements into deployable autonomy software across perception, planning, and control.

The role requires hands-on experience with ROS/ROS2, C++ and Python for embedded systems, and strong knowledge of state estimation, localization and path planning.

Qualifications

  • 3+ years of robotics or systems engineering for hardware
  • Experience with ROS/ROS 2 for sensor integration and orchestration
  • Experience with C++ or Python for embedded Linux systems, robotics, and real‑time development
  • Experience with perception techniques such as sensor fusion, object detection, or environmental mapping
  • Knowledge of autonomous systems concepts including state estimation, localization, path planning, and feedback control
  • Ability to provide algorithms and software support for mobile robot sensing, perception, localization, navigation, and behaviors
  • Ability to communicate complex technical topics effectively in writing and speech and use ROS for custom messages/nodes/packages
  • Ability to provide software maintenance, deployment, including version control, CI/CD, packaging, containerization, and documentation
  • Able to obtain a Secret clearance

Responsibilities

  • Design and implement autonomous behaviors for maritime robotic systems
  • Work with a multidisciplinary team to develop software modules across perception, planning, and control
  • Participate in the full software lifecycle from architecture and prototyping to integration and field testing
  • Collaborate with systems engineers, hardware leads, and mission stakeholders
  • Ensure safety, reliability, and performance in dynamic maritime conditions
