J.S. Held is seeking a mid-to-senior level Forensic Mechanical Engineer to join our US and international team.

You will investigate failures in mechanical systems, support expert testimony, and contribute to complex forensic projects across commercial, industrial, and residential settings. The ideal candidate holds a Bachelors in Mechanical Engineering, 3–5 years of experience in insurance or legal forensics, a PE license, and the ability to travel 30–50% while communicating clearly with clients

Qualifications

• Bachelor’s degree in Mechanical Engineering and 3–5 years in insurance or legal forensics.
• Active PE license in residency state.
• Willingness to travel 30–50%.
• Excellent verbal and written communication skills.
• Experience providing expert witness testimony is a plus.

Responsibilities

• Investigate causes of failures in mechanical systems across sites.
• Lead field investigations and document damaged property.
• Research failure modes and provide repair recommendations.
• Prepare clear reports detailing opinions and conclusions for clients.
• Participate in multidisciplinary teams on large assignments.
• Maintain relationships with clients and consultants.
• Stay current with company policies and ongoing training.
