J.S. Held LLC is seeking a mid-to-senior level Forensic Mechanical Engineer to support clients across the United States and internationally. The role involves investigating failures in mechanical systems, leading field investigations, and providing expert witness testimony when required.

The position requires a Bachelor’s in Mechanical Engineering, an active PE license, and 30–50% travel. Residency in the Midwest and strong communication skills are essential for success in this role with travel

Qualifications

• Bachelor’s degree in Mechanical Engineering is required.
• Active PE license is required; license in resident state is acceptable.
• Proven ability to testify as an expert witness is preferred.
• Willingness to travel 30–50% to project sites across regions.
• Excellent verbal and written communication and interpersonal skills.
• Proficient in standard software (Word, Excel, PowerPoint).

Responsibilities

• Investigate causes and origins of failures in mechanical systems in diverse sites (industrial, commercial, residential).
• Lead field investigations and document damaged property with multiple parties.
• Research failure modes and applicable codes; advise on repair or replacement.
• Prepare clear, thorough reports detailing opinions and conclusions for clients.
• Collaborate with multidisciplinary teams on complex assignments.
• Maintain relationships with clients and consultants and stay updated on company practices.
