Job summary

ABB is seeking a Protection & Control Engineer to act as the technical lead for engineering activities across utility, industrial, and commercial substations. The role emphasizes design authority, documentation, and cross‑disciplinary collaboration, with a preference for candidates in Northern California.

It is a full remote position with team and customer interaction globally. Requirements include a Bachelors in Electrical Engineering, 5+ years in protection & control projects, and a California

Qualifications

• Bachelors in Electrical Engineering required.
• 5+ years of experience in protection & control projects for utility customers.
• Ability to read, interpret, and apply electrical one-lines, schematics, and instruction manuals.
• PE License in California required.
• US work authorization already in place to work for ABB in the US.

Responsibilities

• Lead and support engineering design activities for substations protection & control/automation systems, including planning, coordination and execution.
• Develop engineering documentation and analyses to support accurate, standards‑compliant designs.
• Manage project materials, construction design packages, and technical issue resolution with stakeholders.
• Ensure adherence to safety, standards, and customer requirements while collaborating with multidisciplinary teams and participating in training.
