Job summary

The Travelers Indemnity Company is seeking an Associate Claim Representative, Outside Property, to join a structured 9–12 month training program in Northern Virginia and/or Washington, DC area. The role is remote with a mix of field work at residences and offices, focusing on 1st party property claims and policy interpretation.

Expect comprehensive training in claim handling, customer service, and estimating, with opportunity to progress to independent claims handling after program completion.

Qualifications

• Bachelor’s Degree required.
• Internship or work experience in customer service or insurance preferred.
• Willingness to obtain an active adjuster license as required by state law.
• Proficient in Microsoft Office and willingness to learn claims management and estimating software.
• Strong verbal and written communication skills.
• Ability to exercise sound judgement within established authority.
• Exceptional customer service and commitment to insureds/claimants.
• Attention to detail and organizational skills; multi-tasking ability.
• Basic conflict resolution skills and willingness to learn negotiations.
• Openness to continuous learning and adaptability to new technology.

Responsibilities

• Participate in structured training covering insurance policies, claim processes, systems, and procedures (virtual, classroom, on-the-job).
• Review, investigate, and document 1st party property claims under supervision.
• Gather information from policyholders, claimants, witnesses, and third-party providers.
• Learn to evaluate all relevant facts and determine coverage for building damages per policy terms.
• Determine scope of damages for building and contents losses for estimates (written or computer-assisted).
• Provide timely, professional communication to customers, claimants, and internal stakeholders.
• Maintain accurate records in claim management systems.
