Job summary

Penhall Company is seeking a Project Engineer to support complex heavy civil infrastructure projects within its Major Projects group. You will assist in field operations, cost tracking, schedules, and documentation, acting as a liaison between field teams, project management, and clients.

The role requires a bachelor’s degree in CM/Engineering or 2+ years of project experience, familiarity with Procore/Bluebeam, OSHA 30, and willingness to travel nationwide.

Qualifications

• Bachelor's degree in Construction Management, Engineering, or a related field, OR 2+ years of construction project experience.
• Experience with demolition, concrete, or specialty subcontracting.
• Experience with federal or military projects (USACE, NAVFAC), including submittals and EM 385-1-1 safety requirements.
• Familiarity with Procore, Bluebeam, or a CRM like Salesforce.
• Current OSHA 30.
• Knowledge of Hawaii prevailing wage and Davis-Bacon requirements.
• Experience supporting field operations, cost tracking, and project coordination.
• Experience in heavy civil, infrastructure, demolition, or concrete-related construction environments preferred.
• Understanding of construction drawings, specifications, and contract documents.
• Knowledge of cost tracking, job costing, and project reporting.
• Experience supporting scheduling and field coordination efforts.
• Proficient in Microsoft Office applications; familiarity with construction management software is a plus.
• Ability to work in a fast-paced, field-driven environment and manage multiple priorities.
• Strong communication skills with the ability to interact effectively with field crews, management, and clients.
• Highly organized with strong attention to detail.

Responsibilities

• Help PMs with project setup, budgets, schedules, and job cost tracking.
• Prepare and track submittals, RFIs, change orders, and transmittals.
• Review plans, specs, and subcontracts for scope, exclusions, and risk.
• Do quantity takeoffs and help with estimates and proposals.
• Put together pre-job packages, including work plans, AHAs, permits, and utility locates.
• Coordinate with GCs, owners, inspectors, subcontractors, and suppliers.
• Visit jobsites to check progress, document conditions, and take photos.
• Track production, T&M, and extra work, and help build change order backup.
• Support payroll compliance, including certified payroll and prevailing wage documentation.
• Handle closeout: as-builts, warranties, retention, and lien and bond paperwork.
• Keep project files and CRM records current.
• All other duties as needed and assigned.
