Job summary

Western Governors University is seeking a Full-Time Program Mentor to guide student learning in online, competency-based degree programs. Program Mentors manage groups of students, coach for academic progress, and help students develop lifelong learning skills.

The role requires a master's or higher and at least 3 years of experience in student support or instruction, with flexibility for evenings/weekends; distance education experience is preferred.

Qualifications

• Master's or advanced degree and all applicable licenses/certifications for a degree program.
• Minimum 3 years of experience providing student support, mentoring, coaching, and/or instruction.
• Ability to work a student-friendly schedule (evenings/weekends).
• Strong experience with distance education is preferred.

Responsibilities

• Acts as a steward for carrying out WGU's mission and strategic vision.
• Offers direct, comprehensive support, coaching, and guidance to a load of assigned students.
• Maintains ongoing development activities to provide WGU and program-level expertise to students.
• Fosters student learning through innovative and motivational teaching and coaching practices.
• Responds urgently to meet students' needs and communicates professionally with the WGU community.
• Uses technology-based teaching and communication platforms to support students' progress.
• Collaborates with other professionals within the university to promote a positive, student-obsessed atmosphere.
