Job summary

Montera is seeking a Principal Controls Engineer to lead portfolio-wide standards for BMS, electrical SCADA, and DCIM across multiple sites. You will define the data model, tagging, and exposure strategy, collaborating with the Network team to deliver secure OT data to the customer and internal AI platforms.

You will own vendor relations, drive integration of third-party controllers, and enable condition-based maintenance and autonomous cooling optimization.

Qualifications

• 10+ years delivering BMS, electrical SCADA, and DCIM for hyperscale facilities.
• Deep command of controls data modeling and tagging (Brick, Haystack).
• Experience with northbound integration protocols (BACnet/IP, Modbus, OPC UA, MQTT/Sparkplug, REST).
• Proven ability to define data-exposure/demarcation models for external consumers.
• Track record of integrating third-party/OEM equipment controllers and running factory/site verification.

Responsibilities

• Own portfolio controls schema and reference architectures for BMS, SCADA, and DCIM across greenfield and brownfield sites.
• Define and govern master points list, tagging and semantic data model, point naming conventions, engineering units, alarm philosophy, and data-retention standards.
• Establish data hierarchy and normalization layer for fleet-wide telemetry.
• Set sequences of operation, interlocks, setpoint strategies, and critical alarm pathways for mechanical and electrical plant.
• Define the customer data-exposure model with a single tenant and specify northbound interfaces (BACnet/IP, Modbus, OPC UA, MQTT/Sparkplug, REST).
• Partner with the Principal Network Engineer to translate exposure into segmentation, DMZ/broker placement, firewall policy, and RBAC.
• Translate lease and SLA commitments into concrete telemetry deliverables and support them through reviews.
• Own equipment-points relationship with OEMs and external developers, issuing point-list specs and acceptance requirements.
• Drive AI/ML optimization platform readiness for condition-based maintenance and closed-loop control.
• Lead commissioning, IST & handover and governance of controls integration with vendors.
