Job summary

Horizon3.ai seeks a Principal Backend Engineer to lead Platform Integration, shaping architecture and technical direction for scalable APIs and integrations.

You will split time between hands-on coding and architectural design, mentoring engineers, and partnering with Product, Design, Security, and leadership to deliver customer-focused solutions.

This fully remote role offers strong compensation and equity, with up to 10% travel.

Qualifications

• Bachelor’s degree in CS, CS-related field, or equivalent experience.
• 10+ years of professional software engineering experience.
• Experience with backend languages such as Go, Python, Java, TypeScript.
• Experience with SQL and at least one relational database in production.
• Experience building backend services on a cloud platform (AWS, GCP, or Azure) and familiarity with Docker.

Responsibilities

• Own end-to-end technical vision for the Integration team and its services.
• Partner with cross-functional stakeholders to translate goals into concrete technical strategy, architecture, and execution plans.
• Contribute production code, setting the standard for design quality, code quality, and operations.
• Lead architectural decisions for scalable backend systems balancing velocity, reliability, and maintainability.
• Drive execution across multiple projects, identify risks, dependencies, and tradeoffs.
• Collaborate with Product, Engineering leadership, Design, and adjacent teams to deliver cross-functional initiatives.
• Communicate complex technical concepts to technical and non-technical audiences.
• Set and raise the technical bar through reviews, writing, and judgment.
• Mentor and develop engineers; support hiring by helping attract and calibrate strong talent.
