Job summary

Matter Health is seeking a Principal AI Platform Engineer to lead the technical foundation for enterprise AI capabilities. This senior individual-contributor role owns platform strategy, architecture, governance, and budget, building environments, pipelines, reusable components, connectors, and integration scaffolding for AI agents and workflow automations.

Remote role with preference for candidates in Nashville or Memphis, TN, and up to 10% travel for meetings and offsites.

Qualifications

• Bachelor’s degree in Computer Science, Data Science, Engineering, or related discipline.
• 10+ years in software, platform, or infrastructure engineering.
• 3+ years at Staff/Principal/Architect level.
• 2+ years designing, building, deploying production AI-agent systems.
• Ownership of an enterprise platform strategy and roadmap, including architecture and tooling.
• Experience with AI agents, workflow automation, and enterprise integrations.
• Experience handling PHI, HIPAA-regulated data, or similar regulatory data.
• Strong written and verbal communication with cross-functional stakeholders.

Responsibilities

• Own the AI platform strategy, roadmap, and day-to-day operations.
• Design and maintain environments, testing pipelines, and reusable components.
• Build connectors across EHR, CRM, ticketing, telephony, and data warehouses.
• Evaluate agent orchestration, RAG, vector infrastructure, APIs, and model tooling.
• Establish governance, security controls, and data-safety safeguards.
• Define monitoring, observability, reliability, and incident-response practices.
• Own the AI platform budget and vendor relationships.
• Document patterns and provide technical guidance to engineers and teams.
• Collaborate with CTO, Security, Compliance, clinical, and operations leaders.
• Measure adoption, reliability, cost, risk, and business impact.
