Job summary

Cognizant is seeking a Principal AI Engineer to design, build, and scale enterprise-grade AI solutions. You will lead architecture and implementation of multi-agent systems, model orchestration frameworks, and AI governance across initiatives.

You will collaborate with architects, data scientists, software engineers, and platform teams to establish reusable patterns and raise engineering standards for scalable AI adoption. This is a remote role within the United States.

Qualifications

• Bachelor's or Master's in Computer Science, Data Science, Engineering, or related field or equivalent experience.
• 8+ years of software/AI engineering, with hands-on production AI experience.
• Expert Python development with FastAPI, Pydantic, async patterns.
• Experience with agentic AI frameworks (LangGraph, LangChain, Google ADK).
• Strong LLM integration, RAG, context management, evaluation methods.
• Experience designing model selection/orchestration to balance cost, latency, quality.
• MLOps: CI/CD, containers, monitoring, observability.
• Proven ability to lead initiatives and document architecture.

Responsibilities

• Architect scalable agentic and multi-agent AI systems, including orchestration and enterprise connectivity.
• Develop production-grade AI applications from PoC to deployment.
• Build model orchestration to balance cost, latency, and performance across providers.
• Develop LLM-powered solutions with prompt engineering, RAG, and evaluation frameworks.
• Establish AI governance, safety, and compliance controls with monitoring and auditability.
