Job summary

Mass General Brigham is seeking a Preoperative Evaluation Registered Nurse to conduct comprehensive preoperative assessments, educate patients, and coordinate with interdisciplinary teams to ensure optimal readiness for surgical care.

The role emphasizes patient safety, evidence-based practice, and meticulous documentation within the EMR, contributing to a positive perioperative patient experience throughout the surgical pathway. BSN preferred and PACU/PreOp experience are required.

Qualifications

• Current RN license in good standing.
• BSN preferred.
• PACU/PreOp or PreOP eval nursing experience required.
• Strong critical thinking, assessment, and clinical judgment.
• Excellent communication and patient education skills.

Responsibilities

• Perform thorough preoperative nursing assessments, including medical history review and medication reconciliation.
• Review and ensure completion of preoperative testing per guidelines.
• Identify risk factors and collaborate with anesthesia and surgery to optimize readiness.
• Provide preoperative patient education on instructions, NPO, and perioperative expectations.
• Document assessments and communications in the EMR.
• Communicate with surgeons' offices, anesthesia teams, and other departments.
• Triage patient inquiries and coordinate follow-up as needed.
• Participate in quality improvement initiatives and regulatory compliance.
• Support patient safety initiatives and accurate patient identification.
• Maintain knowledge of perioperative guidelines and best practices.
