Job summary

CHARLES COUNTY GOVERNMENT is seeking a dynamic Permit Specialist in the Department of Planning & Growth Management - Infrastructure Management Division to perform technical and administrative permit work for the County's Planning and Growth Management Department.

Responsibilities include processing permits, assisting applicants, preparing invoices, coordinating plan reviews, and providing guidance on permitting requirements to architects, contractors and the public.

Responsibilities

• Processes permit applications by accepting, reviewing, and processing for completeness; routing to appropriate staff/agencies for review; monitoring application progress; issuing permits; and assigning required inspections.
• Assists customers and staff with the technical components of the application submission process.
• Verifies, enters, and prepares permit invoices; notifies applicants of pending invoices and tracks invoices through payment.
• Prepares comment letters for review by Engineers or the Engineering Supervisor.
• Coordinates variance requests.
• Verifies that projects have obtained all necessary approvals before issuing permits.
• Coordinates plan review extension as needed.
• Provides guidance in completing permit applications and forms; ensures applicants understand the permitting process, review timelines, and required attachments.
• Responds to inquiries from architects, contractors, builders and the public; directs applicants to appropriate agencies.
