Job summary

SEIU 775 is seeking a Payroll Specialist to ensure accurate processing and recording of payroll across applicable states, with responsibility for timely data entry, HRIS administration, and compliance with federal and state requirements.

The role requires collaboration with Accounting and various departments, handling benefits management, and producing ad hoc reports while maintaining confidentiality and professionalism.

Qualifications

  • Bachelor degree in Accounting, Finance, Business Administration, or related field or equivalent experience.
  • 4–6 years’ experience processing multi-state payroll & union payroll.
  • Familiarity with federal and state wage and hour laws, payroll tax regulations, and payroll compliance requirements.

Responsibilities

  • Perform daily payroll operations within the lost time database and support the Payroll & Benefits Specialist.
  • Collect and verify onboarding documentation for payroll processing.
  • Review timesheets with departments bi-monthly.
  • Set up and manage member data inside the payroll database.
  • Manage workflow to ensure payroll transactions are processed accurately and timely.
  • Reconcile payroll prior to transmission and validate reports.
  • Develop ad hoc financial and operational reporting as needed.
  • Collaborate with Accounting to process manual checks outside payroll.
  • Assist with benefits management for eligible members.
  • Provide legal research support as requested by General Counsel.
  • Support departments on lost time and act as a problem-solving partner.
  • HRIS: set up new members, update profiles, update tax data, collect direct deposit info.
  • May perform political work for candidates and member education as needed.
  • Other duties as assigned.
