Frey Consulting Group is seeking a Payroll Specialist to support payroll for several hundred employees across multiple states. You will review payroll data, reconcile entries, and identify discrepancies before payroll is finalized, with a focus on accuracy and learning Travere's processes.

The role requires hands-on expertise and the ability to step in with limited training. The ideal candidate has extensive experience with ADP Workforce Now, Adobe Acrobat Pro, and Excel, and can work

Qualifications

  • 3-10 years of hands-on Payroll experience with a strong understanding of the full payroll process.
  • Experience processing semi-monthly payroll for both salaried and hourly employees.
  • Some experience supporting multi-state payroll.
  • Hands-on experience with payroll review, including reviewing payroll previews, entries, earnings, deductions, taxes, benefits, and adjustments.
  • Experience processing and reviewing employee timesheets.
  • Experience calculating overtime and double-time for non-exempt employees.
  • Experience working with Human Resources on leaves of absence (LOAs)
  • Experience reviewing new hires, terminations, salary changes, bonuses, deductions, and other payroll changes.
  • Strong experience with payroll reconciliations, including comparing current payroll to prior payroll and researching variances.
  • Strong Excel skills, including the ability to review, compare, organize, and reconcile payroll data.
  • Strong hands-on experience with ADP Workforce Now.
  • Experience creating and reviewing ADP reports.
  • Experience using Adobe Acrobat Pro to review and manage PDF-based payroll documentation.
  • Experience with payroll accounting and journal entries.
  • Some understanding of payroll taxes, deductions, benefits, 401(k), HSA, PTO, and other payroll-related items.
  • Experience with year-end payroll and W-2 review.
  • Strong ability to review someone else’s work and identify errors or inconsistencies.
  • Ability to quickly learn a company's payroll processes, checklists, approval procedures, and internal controls.
  • Ability to work effectively in a remote environment and be available during overlapping business hours with the Pacific Time-based Payroll team.

Responsibilities

  • Process and support semi-monthly payroll for several hundred employees across multiple states using ADP Workforce Now.
  • Review payroll entries and information for accuracy and completeness before payroll is finalized.
  • Perform the first-level review of payroll and identify discrepancies or missing information.
  • Review multiple payroll previews and compare payroll data to previous payrolls to make sure changes are accurate.
  • Review earnings, deductions, benefits, taxes, garnishments, salary changes, bonuses, and other payroll adjustments.
  • Process and review employee timesheets, including calculating overtime and occasional double-time for non-exempt employees.
  • Work closely with Human Resources on employee payroll information and leaves of absence (LOAs).
  • Coordinate payroll-related information for employees on leave or other approved absences.
  • Review new hire, termination, compensation, and employee status changes to ensure payroll is accurate.
  • Assist with supplemental payroll runs when needed.
  • Review payroll documentation and make sure required information is included in the payroll paperwork/review folder for each payroll cycle.
  • Complete and review payroll reconciliations, comparing the current payroll to the prior payroll and researching differences.
  • Use Excel to analyze payroll information, identify variances, and support payroll reconciliations.
  • Review payroll reports and supporting documentation to ensure amounts and employee information are accurate.
  • Support payroll journal entries and payroll accounting activities as needed.
  • Work with the Payroll Manager and Payroll team to resolve payroll discrepancies and questions.
  • Assist with payroll tax, benefit, and deduction reviews.
  • Support 401(k), HSA, PTO, and other payroll-related accounting or reconciliation activities as needed.
  • Assist with year-end payroll activities, including W-2 review and payroll data validation.
  • Maintain and follow payroll checklists, procedures, and documentation.
  • Use Adobe Acrobat Pro to review, organize, approve, and maintain payroll documentation and PDF files.
  • Run and save ADP reports needed for payroll processing and review.
  • Respond to employee payroll questions and research issues related to pay, deductions, taxes, benefits, and ADP.
  • Maintain strict confidentiality when handling employee compensation and payroll information.
  • Work closely with the Payroll team during busy payroll periods and maintain clear communication when deadlines are approaching.
  • Assist with other payroll-related projects and responsibilities as assigned.
