Missionwell is seeking a Payroll and Benefits Specialist to manage accurate, timely payroll and benefits administration for multiple nonprofit partners in a fully remote, California-based role. You will coordinate open enrollment, ensure data integrity across HRIS, carriers, and brokers, and maintain compliance with federal, state, and local requirements.

The ideal candidate brings 4+ years of payroll processing experience, strong knowledge of California regulations, and excellent communication.

Qualifications

• 4+ years of payroll processing experience, including California.
• Experience managing payroll for multiple entities, clients, or payroll groups.
• Strong knowledge of California wage-and-hour, payroll tax regulations, deductions, and recordkeeping.
• Experience supporting benefits administration functions such as open enrollment and compliance testing.

Responsibilities

• Process multi-period payrolls accurately and on time for multiple partners.
• Coordinate open enrollment and benefits setup, tracking, and reporting.
• Maintain payroll and benefits data across payroll, HRIS, carriers, and vendors.
• Prepare year-end payroll reporting and respond to payroll tax notices.
• Explain payroll calculations and benefits impacts clearly to stakeholders.
