Job summary

Charter Impact is seeking a Payroll Specialist to manage all payroll functions for our clients, including processing, training client staff, and handling related tax and benefit deductions. This role supports multi-state payroll with an emphasis on accuracy and compliance.

The position may be remote for candidates in several states and includes opportunities to contribute to process improvements and SOPs while collaborating with a small team on client projects.

Qualifications

• High school diploma required.
• Payroll-related coursework and/or certification is a plus.
• Three years of payroll processing experience preferred for external applicants.
• Experience with third-party payroll databases: ADP, Paycor, Paycom, Paychex, UKG Ready Now.
• Knowledge of payroll and wage-and-hour laws.
• Intermediate/Advanced Microsoft Office skills (Word, Excel, Outlook).
• Ability to manage multi-state payroll processing.

Responsibilities

• Train client staff on payroll processes and procedures.
• Enter new hires and employee changes from client pay information.
• Review payroll reports for accuracy prior to submission.
• Calculate final checks and related calculations.
• Prepare and submit retirement reporting and payments (403(b)/401(k) and plans).
• Reconcile payroll-related liability accounts before month-end closing.
• Create and distribute payroll calendars to clients and send due date reminders.
• Enter paper work and changes into payroll systems and verify STRS membership types.
