Qualifications

• Experience in physician office or hospital billing preferred.
• Proficiency with multi-line phone system.
• Ability to explain financial obligations and negotiate payment plans.
• Knowledge of CPT/ICD-10 coding for orthopedic surgery is a plus.

Responsibilities

• Contact patients with outstanding balances and send communications per protocol.
• Post patient payments into the practice management system.
• Review incoming fax correspondence and route to the appropriate team member.
• Submit refund requests as needed; evaluate delinquent accounts for referral to third-party collection agencies.
• Utilize the Collection Module to track activity and establish payment plans within pre-approved guidelines.
• Answer and manage calls from the call queue.
• Assist patients with billing inquiries.
• Transfer calls to insurance collection specialists as appropriate.
• Communicate patient questions to billing department staff.
• Promote online bill payment and resources located there by guiding patients to pay their bill online.
• Complete other duties as assigned.
