Job summary

University of Colorado Medicine (CU Medicine) is seeking a motivated Coder I for our Pathology coding team. This role can be performed 100% remotely, with out-of-state candidates considered.

Under supervision, you will code professional services per CMS guidelines, validate ICD-10-CM and CPT-4 data, and prepare charge capture documents for claims submission. Essential duties include reviewing documentation, prioritizing codes, processing charges quickly, and maintaining high accuracy while

Qualifications

• High School Diploma or equivalent required.
• Certification (AAPC/AHIMA) within one year of hire; CPC-A acceptable.
• Prior clinical background and/or medical coding education required for entry level.
• Basic knowledge of coding principles, anatomy and physiology, and medical terminology.
• Knowledge of claim system edits and modifier assignment.

Responsibilities

• Review provider documentation to validate ICD-10-CM and CPT-4 codes with modifiers when needed.
• Review medical documentation to verify procedures and charges.
• Prioritize and assign ICD-10-CM, CPT-4 and HCPCS codes.
• Process charges within 24-48 hours of clinic completion.
• Ensure CMS/state regulations are followed in charge capture and submission.
• Maintain 95%+ accuracy and meet production standards.
