Job summary

Nielsen is seeking a non-attorney patent agent to join its Intellectual Property Team on a permanent basis. The Patent Agent will work with engineers, data scientists, and other innovators to build a world-class patent portfolio to propel Nielsen’s business goals.

This fully remote role prefers Midwest or Eastern time zones and involves evaluating disclosures, prosecuting applications, and developing patent strategies with product teams.

Qualifications

• At least 2 years of experience as a patent agent, including drafting patent applications and responses, and interviewing examiners.
• Degree in CS, math, physics, EE, or related field; familiarity with media content distribution and AI/ML concepts.
• Registered to practice before the USPTO; in-house prep/prosecution experience is valued.

Responsibilities

• Draft provisional and non-provisional utility patent applications in-house.
• Work with inventors to evaluate disclosures and refine claims.
• Prosecute patent applications in-house under supervision, including office actions and appeals.
• Coordinate with outside counsel in foreign jurisdictions as needed.
• Develop patent strategies aligned with Nielsen’s products and business goals.
