Optum is seeking a professional medical coder specializing in palliative care to join a nationwide telecommuting team. You will assign ICD-10 and CPT codes, generate coding queries, and monitor work queues to ensure timely charging and documentation optimization.

Required qualifications include AHIMA/AAPC certification, 2+ years of ICD-10/CPT coding experience in palliative care, and proficiency with Windows PCs, MS Excel, and Epic EMR.

Qualifications

• High School Diploma/GED required.
• AHIMA/AAPC certification (CPC, COC, CPC-P, CCS) maintained annually.
• 2+ years of PC experience in a Windows environment, including MS Excel and EMR systems.
• 2+ years of ICD-10 and CPT coding with a focus in Palliative Care.

Responsibilities

• Assigns accurate diagnostic and procedure codes according to clinical documentation and official coding guidelines for palliative care.
• Assigns CPT and ICD-10 codes to all services.
• Monitors assigned work queues to ensure records are charged/coded in a timely manner.
• Generates coding queries for clarification regarding physician documentation as needed.
• Stays abreast of all changes in coding conventions and coding updates.
• Ability to manage significant workload, and to work efficiently under pressure meeting established deadlines with minimal supervision.
• All other duties as assigned.
