Midwest Family Mutual Insurance Company seeks an entry level Commercial and Personal Lines Underwriter to join the growing team. We have operated a fully work-from-home environment since 2006.

Qualifications

• 0–3 years of experience in property and casualty insurance or related coursework/internship.
• Eagerness to learn underwriting principles, coverage forms, and endorsements.
• Strong analytical skills with keen attention to detail.
• Must have high-speed internet and a dedicated home office space.
• Excellent written and verbal communication skills.
• Self-motivated and able to work independently with strong time management.
• Proficient in Microsoft Office and comfortable with various technologies.
• Effective team player able to collaborate across departments.
• Commitment to regular and reliable attendance.
• Adherence to internal control policies and administrative duties.
• Willingness to perform additional duties as assigned by management.

Responsibilities

• Evaluate and underwrite both commercial and personal lines of new and renewal business.
• Assess risk characteristics to determine pricing and coverage options.
• Cultivate and maintain relationships with independent agents.
• Negotiate terms with producers to write profitable business.
• Maintain compliance with underwriting policies and regulatory requirements.
• Contribute to evolution of underwriting strategies and workflows (AI tools).
• Participate in training, mentoring, or knowledge-sharing initiatives.
