Job summary

Sigma Technologies is seeking an experienced Make Ready Designer to support overhead pole design, joint-use engineering, and make-ready work for electric and telecommunications utilities. This role focuses on evaluating pole conditions, applying NESC clearance requirements, assessing attachments, and producing construction-ready designs.

Remote opportunity in the United States with a 2-week in-person orientation at Perrysburg, Ohio HQ.

Qualifications

• High school diploma or equivalent is required.
• An associate degree or higher in engineering, drafting, or related field preferred.
• Minimum 2 years in make-ready engineering, joint-use design, or electric power distribution design (3+ years strongly preferred).
• Experience in utility pole design including NESC application and pole loading concepts.
• Proficiency with CAD or MicroStation; familiarity with DDS, Katapult, O-Calc preferred.

Responsibilities

• Complete make-ready and overhead utility pole design work orders.
• Review field collection data, pole information, attachment details, and existing conditions.
• Evaluate joint-use attachments, NESC clearances, and required make-ready modifications.
• Develop construction-ready make-ready designs (pole replacements, transfers, attachments, guying, anchoring).
• Apply NESC requirements and client design criteria across projects.
• Perform end-to-end make-ready design and support related overhead distribution design.
• Conduct permitting and easement research (ownership, ROW, approvals).
• Collaborate with teams to resolve design conflicts and field-data discrepancies.
