Job summary

TEKsystems is seeking a Medical Outpatient Surgical Coder for a fully remote role. Required: 4+ years in outpatient and surgical coding, with EPIC experience preferred. Must live in VA, TX, FL, or NC.

The coder will handle outpatient surgery and observation coding, review operative reports, and ensure CMS/AHIMA compliance. Contract-to-hire position based out of Chesapeake, VA, with a pay rate of $29–$33 per hour. Epic experience and additional ED coding exposure are pluses.

Qualifications

• 4 years of outpatient medical coding experience, and surgical medical coding experience.
• ACCESSED credentials CCS/CPC/COC/RHIA/RHIT required or AHIMA-approved certificate preferred.

Responsibilities

• Code ambulatory surgery and observation encounters using ICD-10, CPT, and HCPCS codes.
• Review operative reports and clinical documentation to ensure compliant facility coding.
• Abstract clinical and demographic data into hospital systems.
• Ensure coding compliance with CMS, Medicare, Medicaid, and AHIMA/AAPC standards.
• Select APC assignments and validate claim readiness.
• Collaborate with physicians and staff for clarifications.
• Support emergency department and outpatient diagnostics coding as volume dictates.
• Maintain departmental productivity and quality standards.
