Job summary

TEKsystems in the U.S. is seeking an experienced Outpatient Surgery Coder to join a hospital coding team. You will review documentation and assign ICD-10, CPT, and HCPCS codes for outpatient surgery, observation, and ancillary encounters.

This is a fully remote, contract-to-hire role with flexible start times, Epic work queues, and a supportive leadership team. You'll collaborate with clinicians to ensure accurate billing and compliance.

Qualifications

• Completion of an AHIMA or AAPC approved coding program.
• Active coding certification (e.g., CPC, CCS, CCS-P, RHIT, RHIA or equivalent).
• 4–5 years hospital-based outpatient coding experience.
• Epic experience and strong facility coding knowledge.
• Acute care hospital experience and understanding of outpatient reimbursement.

Responsibilities

• Code ambulatory surgery, observation, and ancillary encounters.
• Review operative reports and clinical documentation to assign ICD-10, CPT, and HCPCS codes.
• Abstract clinical and demographic data into hospital information systems.
• Ensure coding accuracy and CMS/Medicare/AHIMA/AAPC guideline compliance.
• Assign and validate APCs and support claim readiness.
• Collaborate with physicians and staff to clarify documentation as needed.
• Assist with ED and outpatient diagnostic coding based on volume.
• Meet productivity, quality, and accuracy standards.
• Process encounters through Epic work queues by service date.
