Job summary

UnitedHealth Group's Optum is seeking an Ancillary Medical Coder to provide CPT/ICD-10 coding for outpatient ancillary services. This full-time role offers flexible hours and the option to telecommute from anywhere in the United States.

The position requires AHIMA/AAPC certification and 1+ year of outpatient facility coding experience, with duties including chart reviews, adherence to coding guidelines, and collaboration with providers and QM leadership.

Qualifications

• High School Diploma or GED is required.
• Professional coder certification with AHIMA and/or AAPC credentials to be maintained annually.
• 1+ years of outpatient facility coding experience.
• Ability to use a PC in a Windows environment and EMR systems.

Responsibilities

• Identify CPT and ICD-10 code assignments for outpatient ancillary services according to guidelines.
• Apply coding knowledge to CCI Edits and Medical Necessity Edits.
• Abstract additional data during chart review when coding.
• Adhere to coding ethics per AHIMA and AAPC standards and internal guidelines.
• Maintain performance in coding quality and productivity per Optum360.
• Provide feedback to providers and query physicians when needed.
• Keep up-to-date coding knowledge via QM Manager and Director of Coding.
• Participate in department meetings and educational events.
• Review and maintain charts coded, held, or missing.
• Perform additional duties as assigned by management.
