Job summary

Optum seeks a professional medical coder to join our facility outpatient coding team. You will assign ICD‑10, CPT, and HCPCS codes for facility services, adhering to official coding guidelines and client-specific rules.

Role requires AHIMA or AAPC certification and 2+ years in ER coding, with strong attention to detail, Excel skills, and experience with EMR systems. Telecommuting from anywhere in the U.S. is supported.

Qualifications

• AHIMA and/or AAPC certification (CCA, CCS, RHIA, RHIT, CPC‑H/COC, CIC, CCS‑P, CPC) maintained annually.
• 2+ years of experience with ICD‑10, CPT, facility charging, and modifiers.
• 2+ years of experience in Emergency Room coding.
• High School Diploma/GED and Windows PC Excel proficiency.

Responsibilities

• Identify ICD‑10, CPT and HCPCS coding for facility services per guidelines.
• Adhere to AAPC/AHIMA ethics and coding guidelines.
• Maintain coding quality and productivity at required levels.
• Query physicians when appropriate.
• Understand APC, NCCI edits, and Medicare policies.
• Stay up-to-date with QM guidance and participate in meetings.
