Job summary

University of Iowa Health Care is seeking an Outpatient Medical Coder (Coding Representative) – Remote Eligible to assign ICD-10-CM and CPT codes for hospital outpatient surgery and observation services. 100% time, benefits, and remote eligibility are part of the role.

The position requires AHIMA/AAPC certification and experience with hospital outpatient coding, Epic and CMS standards. Remote work is allowed after training and will be reviewed annually.

Qualifications

• Knowledge of hospital outpatient ICD-10-CM and CPT coding.
• Knowledge of medical terminology, anatomy and physiology.
• Proficiency in Microsoft Office and strong communication.

Responsibilities

• Review documentation to assign ICD-10-CM diagnosis and CPT procedure codes for outpatient services.
• Ensure compliance with coding guidelines and regulatory requirements.
• Contribute to process improvements and denial management.
• Assist with training and communicate with providers as needed.
