Job summary

Rodale Institute invites applications for an Organic Consultant to support farmers and supply chain actors in transitioning to organic systems across Pennsylvania. This fully remote role requires travel to sites and events in PA, with residency in PA preferred.

You will guide farmers through organic certifications, provide agronomic recommendations, connect clients to markets, and assist with project proposals and reporting. Strong collaboration across departments is essential.

Qualifications

• Bachelor's degree in agriculture, agronomy or soil science, or related field with 2–4 years of farm experience.
• Knowledge of crops and production practices in assigned region.
• Sound judgment, excellent reasoning and decision‑making skills.
• Excellent organizational skills with the ability to prioritize multiple projects.
• Responsive and attentive to grower needs.
• Ability to work independently while supporting the team.
• Ability to work effectively in a remote environment.
• Strong written and verbal communication skills.
• Willingness to travel for site visits and conferences.
• Proficiency with Microsoft Word, Excel and PowerPoint.

Responsibilities

• Guide beginning, conventional, and existing organic farmers in transitioning to organic systems and completing USDA Organic program paperwork.
• Provide agronomic recommendations on crop rotation, soil health, fertility, pests, weed and disease management, tillage and seed sourcing.
• Connect farmers with market opportunities through ROC Market Coordinator.
• Support farming clients to improve yields and profitability through research and experimentation.
• Assist in developing proposals and seeking new grants and contracts.
• Maintain client and project files using CRM and document management systems.
• Prepare reports on consultant activities for funders.
• Manage travel, conference, and education budgets for projects.
